Masks

Warriors, Threats, Witnesses

Masks express a cry for help in response to the damage caused by the flagrant disregard of our natural environment and humanity. My aim is to reduce my carbon footprint so the masks are created largely from recycled materials including nature's detritus, newspaper, grocery bags, rattan, plastic and wood scrap, toys, bullet shells. I haunt junk stores for rattan baskets and other cast-offs that bring their histories. When COVID forced quarantine, I turned to paper mâché. My visages invite the observer to appreciate both the grandeur and fragility of nature and the need for our vigilant protection.
