These porcelain heads go back to when I pursued a BFA at the Kansas City Art Institute. I dug-out the original slides when I rediscovered a good art friend who mentioned that she once owned “Duck Lady” but it broke and disappeared. Indeed, the temporal quality of art fascinates me with my fragile ceramic pieces being especially vulnerable. These dream-like self-portraits were hand-built with a combination of slabs with molds that I created. The more complex sculptures were fired separately and glued together. Decades later, I am returning to faces with my newest masks made from recycled materials rather than clay.
